🖌️ About the Exhibition
Varying approaches to naturalism in art produced innovation not only in painting but also in architecture, engineering, and the natural sciences. Linear perspective, sfumato, and chiaroscuro can be seen in the works of Leonardo da Vinci, Johannes Vermeer, and John Singer Sargent. The works of such monumental figures still inspire the imagination and captivate the eye. Their paintings are studied and even copied by contemporary artists seeking to deepen their knowledge in the pursuit of craftsmanship and excellence.
In conjunction with the Wednesday Group’s display of drawings and paintings, The Art Center will feature artworks from its Permanent Collection chosen to highlight the theme “Contemporary Masters.”
The selection of artworks all emphasizes material mastery and observation as a means of rendering. In some cases, works in the display will overlap artists also represented in the Wednesday Group’s exhibition, including Daniel Sprick’s Pots and Pan, oil on canvas, and Mitch Caster’s Ballet Shoes, pastel.
The exhibition will also include works by such dynamic artists as Paul Pletka, Shang Ding, Jei Wei Zhou, and many more.
